Using Workspace with screen readers

Workspace is an Adobe® Flex® application and is compatible with screen readers. You can navigate through the Workspace interface by using the keyboard. For information about using screen readers with applications built with Flex, go to the Adobe Accessibility Resource Center and, under the Accessibility By Product section, click the link for Adobe Flex 3.

To use Workspace with a screen reader, keep in mind these points:

  • Use Microsoft® Internet Explorer 7.0 or later.

  • To use Freedom Scientific JAWS for Microsoft Windows®, install scripts to help JAWS interact with Flex. The scripts are available from the Adobe Accessibility Resource Center. Install the JAWS scripts for Flex 3. Use JAWS 10 or later.

  • Processes and tasks are displayed only in list view. Card view is disabled when Workspace detects a screen reader.

  • Additional dialog boxes appear to audibly inform you of certain events when Workspace detects a screen reader.

  • Forms can take a few seconds to load. The screen reader does not audibly inform you that the form is loading and that you must wait.

  • When a screen reader is active, message notifications are displayed as alert message boxes. Screen readers can also read the Messages page.
