Creating PDF Packages

The Create a PDF Package component uses the PDF Generator module and Assembler service to generate PDF Packages. A PDF Package contains a cover page that has attachments (component files) but with added information (such as the date, author, and topic) used to organize the component documents.

When creating a PDF Package, you can provide a custom cover page or have (Deprecated for AEM forms) Launch Pad provide it for you. The custom cover page must be a PDF document.

You can convert the types of file formats listed in the Converting to PDF topic and any existing PDF files.

For more information about the settings used for the Convert a PDF Package component, see “Assembler Service” in LiveCycle Services.

Create a PDF Package

  1. Click the Create a PDF Package icon.

  2. Add the files to convert and package by clicking the plus button and selecting the files.

You can also add files by dragging them from your desktop or Explore window to the list box.
  3. If converting multiple files, sort the order in which to convert and package them by clicking the up and down buttons.

  4. To use a custom cover page for the PDF Package, select Add Custom Coverpage, click the folder button, and select the PDF file containing the cover page.

  5. Select the preset PDF Settings to apply:

    • Standard: Use for reliable viewing and printing of business documents.

    • High Quality Print: Use for high-quality printing on desktop printers and proofers.

    • Oversized Pages: Use for reliable viewing and printing of drawings larger than 200 x 200 inches.

    • PDFA1b 2005 CMYK or PDFA 1b 2005 RGB: Use for compliance to the ISO standard for long-term preservation (archival) of electronic documents. These two settings are similar except for their color values.

    • PDFX1a 2001 or PDFX3 2002: Use for compliance to the ISO standard for graphic content exchange. These two settings are similar except PDFX3 supports device-independent color while PDFX1a requires color to appear as either CMYK or spot colors. For more information on PDF/X, see Adobe and industry standards.

    • Press Quality: Use for high-quality print production (for example, on an imagesetter or platesetter), where file size is not a concern. The objective is to maintain all the information in a PDF file that a commercial printer or prepress service provider needs to print the document correctly.

    • Smallest File Size: Use for printing to desktop printers or digital copiers, publishing on a CD, or sending as a publishing proof. This setting uses compression and downsampling to reduce the file size.

  6. Click Create. The files are converted and the PDF Package is listed at the bottom of the component tab.

  7. Select the PDF Package from the bottom list box and drag it to your desktop. You can then open the package.
