In dit programmeringsvoorbeeld wordt getoond hoe met de Flash Text Engine een eenvoudige krantenpagina wordt opgemaakt. De pagina bevat een grote kop, een subkop en hoofdtekst die uit meerdere kolommen bestaat.
Eerst maakt u een nieuw FLA-bestand en koppelt u de volgende code aan frame 2 van de standaardlaag.

StoryLayout.as is het besturingsscript voor dit voorbeeld. In dit script wordt de inhoud ingesteld, de stijlgegevens uit een extern opmaakmodel gelezen en deze stijlen toegewezen aan de ElementFormat-objecten. Daarna worden de tekstelementen voor de kop, de subkop en de diverse kolommen gemaakt.
