Setting up the LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in

The LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in for Flash Builder 4 enables you to quickly build Flex and Air applications that invoke a LiveCycle ES2 service through its remoting endpoints. The LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in is not automatically installed when you install Flash Builder 4. It is available in the Extras folder of the Flash Builder 4 DVD.

From time to time Adobe may update the LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in. For the most recent updates, refer to the LiveCycle Developer Center/Download Page http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/?view=downloads. The latest release version of the LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in is 9.0.0.v20100406070952.

Before you can use the Service Discovery Plug-in, you need to complete these steps:

• Install the Service Discovery Plug-in
• Configure your Flex project to point to the appropriate SWCs

Install the Service Discovery Plug-in

Note: To install the plug-in, you must have Administrator privileges for your system.

1. Close Flash Builder if it is open.
2. Do one of the following to obtain the LiveCycle ES Service Discovery Plugin.zip file:
   • On the Flash Builder 4 DVD, locate the Extras folder.
   • Go to the LiveCycle Developer Center/Download Page http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/?view=downloads and download the zip file to your local system.
3. Unzip the file LiveCycle ES Service Discovery Plugin.zip to a location on your local drive.
4. Open the plugins folder and copy the following files to the plugins folder of your Flash Builder 4 installation, typically C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\plugins.
   • com.adobe.flexbuilder.services.LCService_9.0.0
   • com.adobe.livecycle.servicediscovery.help.en_9.0.0
5. If you do not have Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES2 Service installed, open the DataServices_SWCs folder and copy the following files to a location of your choice. You need these files to properly compile your Flex project.
   • adobe-remoting-provider.swc
   • adobe-remoting-provider_rb.swc

Configure your Flex project

You need to configure your Flex project to include the data services remoting SWCs in your application so that the project compiles without errors. The files are:

• adobe-remoting-provider_rb.swc
• adobe-remoting-provider.swc
  

1. In Flash Builder, create a new Flex project.
2. Do one of the following:
   • If you have LiveCycle Workbench ES2 installed, point your application’s library path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES2\LiveCycle_ES_SDK\misc\DataServices\Client-Libraries.
   • If you do not have LiveCycle Workbench ES2 installed, point the library path to the location you placed the files in step #5 above.

Note: You must set this library path each time you build an application with the LiveCycle Service Discovery Plug-in.
