Review the information in this document before you install LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5.1 Extension for Microsoft Office. For detailed installation instructions, see the Installing and Configuring Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 Extension for Microsoft Office document from http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/livecycle/rightsmgmt/

This version of Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office is compatible with Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5 and Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform Document Services - Rights Management. You must ensure that there are no third-party plugins added to your Microsoft Office installation.

You must be logged on as an administrator to install the software.

To install the software, run the AdobeLiveCycleRightsManagementES2ExtensionforMicrosoftOffice.exe file that you downloaded from Adobe web site.

Do not install the software in a folder whose name contains double-byte characters. The Adobe Rights Management menu will not appear in Microsoft Office.

Known Issues

Third-party plugins not supported

LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5.1 Extension for Microsoft Office does not work with third-party plugins. You should uninstall any third-party plugins for Microsoft Office before you install Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office.

Disabled menu options in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5.1 Extension for Microsoft Office uses built-in protection features to protect documents, worksheets, and presentations. This implementation may cause some Excel, Word, and PowerPoint menu options to be disabled.

"Protected by Adobe Rights Management" is not displayed in the title bar

For PowerPoint 2010 presentations protected by LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5.1 Extension for Microsoft Office, the phrase "Protected by Adobe Rights Management" is not displayed in the title bar beside the file name. You can see this phrase in the taskbar.

Restricted feature in Microsoft Word 2003

The Tools > Templates and Add-Ins option is disabled in Microsoft Word 2003 for documents protected by Rights Management. However, the corresponding option, Office button > Word Options > Add-Ins, is available in Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010.

Document Template command in Microsoft Word 2007 is unsupported

In Microsoft Word 2007, the Developer > Document Template command is disabled in a protected session. Users can access this command by selecting Office button > Words Options > Customize > Developer Tab > Templates > Document Template. However, this is still unsupported by Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Excel 2007, Share Workbook is restricted in a protected session

The Review > Changes > Share Workbook feature is disabled in a protected session. The documentation states incorrectly that it is restricted only by the Copy permission.

New restrictions for Microsoft Word and Excel, 2007 and 2010

In Microsoft Word and Excel 2007 and 2010, the following options are unavailable during a protected session:

Note: The ability to start a workflow from the 2007 or 2010 versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is available only in the Office Professional Plus, Office Enterprise, and Office Ultimate suites 2007 and 2010 versions, as well as in the stand-alone 2007 and 2010 Office release versions of these programs.

Advanced Properties menu disabled Microsoft Excel 2007 and 2010

For Microsoft Excel 2007 and 2010 files that are protected by Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office, the structure of the workbook is protected. This causes certain types of functionality to be disabled. For example, the Advanced Properties menu is disabled for protected Excel documents.

Opening a protected document from SharePoint Server

Opening the protected document: If you try to open a protected document in Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office from SharePoint Server without first opening the Microsoft Office program associated with the file type, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft PowerPoint, the document may not open and an error message may display indicating that you must install the applicable plug-in. As a result, it is recommended that you open the associated Microsoft Office program, before you open a protected document in Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office from SharePoint Server.

(Optional) It is also recommended that you clear your cache folder before opening a protected document in Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office from SharePoint Server.

After opening the protected document: When you open a protected document from SharePoint Server, all permissions on the document are disabled, regardless of the policy that was applied.

Microsoft PowerPoint Clipboard Advisory

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 users who have the permission to modify the document but do not have permission to copy any of its content cannot use the clipboard to copy and paste content within the document.

Session remains active if Microsoft Outlook is open

In Office 2003, if Word is the email editor, closing Word after you work on a policy-protected file does not end a protected session if Outlook is still open. The session remains active until you close Outlook or the session times out.

User name and password incorrect message may be inaccurate

If you cannot connect to Rights Management , a message appears stating that "The username and password are incorrect, please check your configuration settings and try again". This message may appear if you cannot connect for another reason. If you are connecting to the server for the first time, verify that you set the server name and port correctly.

Upgrading to Office 2007 or 2010 may disable Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office

If you are using Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office with Office 2003 and you upgrade to Office 2007 or 2010, you may not be able to use Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office with Office 2007 or 2010. If this problem occurs, uninstall and reinstall Rights Management Extension for Microsoft Office.

Apply a policy with a dynamic watermark to an Excel 2007 or 2010 file with no printer installed

When you apply a policy with dynamic watermark to an Excel 2007 or 2010 file on a computer that has no printers installed and then save the file, the following error appears: "Internal error while applying dynamic watermark." This error also appears when you reopen the protected file. The watermark is not applied and it is not visible from View > Page Layout.

It is recommended that you disable the Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) setting when using Rights Management Extension-supported Office applications.

Shared Excel file cannot be protected using Rights Management Extension

When you protect an Excel file using Right Management Extension, the Share Workbook feature becomes disabled, and you cannot secure the file. If you try to protect an Excel file that is already shared, Rights Management Extension cannot secure the file.

Starting Office applications on a machine with Rights Management Extension and McAfee VirusScan

To ensure that Office applications start smoothly on a machine that has Rights Management Extension installed and McAfee VirusScan with On-Access Scan enabled, disable the Buffer Overflow Protection option in the McAfee VirusScan Console.

Installing Rights Management Extension on a machine with an unsupported Microsoft Office language

Before you install the Rights Management Extension plug-in on a machine that has a Microsoft Office application with an unsupported language, you must open the Office application at least once before you attempt to install Rights Management Extension.

Synchronize Off-Line button is enabled even when a user does not have offline permissions

The Synchronize Off-Line button is available even though the user does not have offline permissions for the document. However, selecting the button does nothing.

Unable to open a protected Microsoft Office files

If the protected view of the Microsoft Office is enabled, the Right Management Extension cannot open protected Microsoft Excel files (.xls, xlsx) and protected Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) files from a remote location.

Unable to modify protected Microsoft Office files

For Microsoft Office 2007 and above, the Right Management Extension cannot modify protected Microsoft Excel (.xls) and protected Microsoft Word (.doc) files.
