For greater control over the index keywords (words and phrases) suggested by the Smart Index Wizard, you can create a custom phrase list. This is a list of keywords that are unique to the project (for example, names of software products) that you want to include in the index.
When the Smart Index Wizard searches topics, it checks the phrase list. If it finds a match in a topic that is not a keyword in the topic, it suggests the item as a keyword.
Select Tools > Smart Index Wizard.
On the first dialog, under Select Search Criteria, select Use Custom Search Settings.
Click Settings.
Under Suggest Phrases, select items.
Click OK.
Note: The words and phrases that you enter are not case-sensitive unless they are uppercase words or mixed-case words. In these instances, the Smart Index Wizard must find an exact match before suggesting a new keyword.
Select Tools > Smart Index Wizard.
Click Phrases.
Click New.
Enter a phrase. The phrase is added to the list.
Click OK.
Select Tools > Smart Index Wizard.
Click Phrases.
Select a phrase.
Click Edit.
Enter a new name. The phrase is renamed.
Click OK.
Select Tools > Smart Index Wizard.
Click Phrases.
Select a phrase.
Click Delete
. The phrase is removed from the custom phrase
list.
Click OK.
Version-control projects may have more options.
Tip: The Smart Index Wizard creates a special file (ProjectName.PHR) that stores your custom phrases. This is a text-only file that you can edit in Windows Notepad. You can share this file with other authors, although only one person can modify it. This file is located in your project folder.
