Using the Test&Target extension with Adobe Dreamweaver CS5
Open the Adobe Test&Target panel in DreamweaverOnce you’ve installed the Test&Target extension, the
Adobe Test&Target panel becomes available in Dreamweaver. Make sure that you have a Dreamweaver document open in the
Document window.
Choose Window > Extensions > Adobe Test&Target.
Log in to your Test&Target account with a valid client
code, user name, and password. If you don’t have a valid account,
contact your Omniture representative.
Create an mboxA marketing box (or “mbox”) is an area of your web page
that you can configure to show different content (“offers”) under
different circumstances. For example, you can create an mbox that
displays offers for a particular magazine, when known users who
might read that magazine visit the page. The mbox is the means through
which you serve or target different offers to different site visitors.
In the Document window, select an element (for example,
a div tag) that you want to turn into an mbox.
The current
content of the element you select will become the default content of
the mbox. You can also create an empty mbox by simply placing the Insertion
point anywhere on the page and proceeding.
In the Adobe Test&Target panel, click the +Mbox button.
Specify a name for the mbox and click Insert.
Note: Your
file must be saved before you can create an Mbox.
When
you create a new mbox, the mbox is listed in the Adobe Test&Target panel.
The mbox receives a gray tabbed outline in the Document window.
The Test&Target extension also creates an mbox.js file and adds
it to an includes/omniturett folder in your site. You must upload
this dependent file to your server in order for your mbox to function
correctly on the web.
Note: If you are working with a Content
Management System (CMS) or an HTML page that is not part of a defined
Dreamweaver site, Dreamweaver asks you if you want to use an existing
mbox.js file, or if you want the extension to create one for you.
Preview the page in a web browser. (You can press F12, or
choose File > Preview in Browser.) When you preview the page
in a web browser, the mbox is created on the Test&Target server.
Create an mbox for a CMS siteYou can create an mbox for use in the pages of your Content
Management System (CMS) site. The Adobe Test&Target Extension
for Dreamweaver CS5 supports WordPress and Drupal sites.
When you create an mbox for a CMS site in Dreamweaver, the extension
creates a corresponding module (Drupal) or plugin (WordPress) for
you to use in your site. After creating the mbox in Dreamweaver,
you must enable the module or plugin in your CMS’s administration
panel.
Open a CMS site in Dreamweaver.
The Adobe Test&Target
extension detects whether your site is a CMS site, and if it is,
displays Drupal or WordPress in the Adobe Test&Target panel.
In the Adobe Test&Target panel, click the +Mbox button.
Specify a name for the mbox, select an existing theme from
the pop-up menu, and click Insert.
When you create a new mbox
for a CMS site, the extension generates all of the files associated
with the mbox, and lists them in the Dreamweaver Files panel. For
Drupal sites, the location is all/modules/. For WordPress, the location
is wp-content/plugins/.
The extension also asks you if you
want to use an existing mbox.js file, or if you want to create one.
If you choose to create one, the extension adds the new mbox.js
file to an includes/omniturett folder in your site. You must upload
this dependent file to your server in order for your mbox to function
correctly on the web.
Activate the mbox by logging into your CMS and navigating
to the appropriate activation area. For Drupal sites, you’ll need
to go to the Modules panel. For WordPress sites you’ll need to go
to the Plugins panel.
Create offers for the mbox by opening up the corresponding
module/plugin HTML file, and clicking the +Offer button. For more
information, see Work with offers.
Note: Dreamweaver automatically opens the
corresponding module/plugin HTML file for you after you’ve created
the mbox.
Delete an mbox To delete an mbox in your document, manually delete
the mbox’s code in Code view.
Note: Don’t forget that removing the mbox from your HTML document
does not remove the dependent mbox.js file in your site. The mbox
also remains on the Test&Target server unless you clear it.
Work with offersAn offer is the content displayed inside an mbox during
campaigns and tests. Test&Target lets you measure the success
of each offer when your users access the web page.
You can create new offers for an mbox on your page, or use existing (unapproved)
offers from Test&Target.
Note: Any associations you create between mboxes and offers in Dreamweaver
are only local associations that help you as you design your pages.
Actual campaign configurations must be specified in the Test&Target
application itself.
Create a new offerSelect an mbox on your web page.
In the Adobe Test&Target panel, click the +Offer button.
Specify a name for the new offer, select the folder on the
Test&Target server where you’d like to store the offer, and
click Insert.
Once the offer is created, you can populate the offer with content.
Use Dreamweaver to add content to the offer as you would for any
other element on a web page.
Use an existing offerSelect an mbox on your web page.
In the Adobe Test&Target panel, click the plus (+) button
in the Preview with Offers title bar.
Browse to and select an existing offer, and click Add.
Switch between offers To switch between offers, select the offer you
want to see in the Adobe Test&Target panel.
Dreamweaver
updates the mbox content for a particular offer in the Document
window, depending on what you’ve selected.
Delete an offer Select an offer in the Adobe Test&Target panel,
and click the minus (-) button in the Preview with Offers title
bar.
Note: Deleting an offer in Dreamweaver deletes the local association
between mbox and offer only. It does not delete the offer on the
Test&Target server, nor does it remove any campaign configuration
you may have specified in the Test&Target application.
Publish work to the serverCampaign work you do in Dreamweaver is only saved locally
until you publish it to the Test&Target server.
To publish your work to the Test&Target server,
save the document you’ve been working on, and then click the Sync
button in the Adobe Test&Target panel.
